A Mountain of Anime News Dropped Over the Holidays

The winter break present a plethora of activities far superior than scanning the headlines: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on festive fare, and using meditation skills to avoid yelling at relatives. It is wished you managed to do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous thrilling announcements came out during the break, and if you overlooked some of them, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (In 2027)

Without a doubt the biggest announcement, the widely-criticized controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to deter the series' continuation. The show will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they might as well have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which could be taken as a good sign. However, the promotional image for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, nowadays, they are probably teasing the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' support and goodwill, and now the community is thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been airing for some time, and season 6 was a further excellent entry. Apparently that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will very likely air in 2026.

A further studio renowned for the excellent quality of its productions, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.

Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Second Season
