Air Travel Restarts at Scotland's Busiest Airport Following Substantial Air Traffic Control Outage

A systems problem at Edinburgh's air traffic control meant no aircraft could enter or leave the hub.

Passenger services have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport following a significant air traffic control outage brought the international hub to a standstill.

Every arrival and departure were suspended because of an technical fault that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Several flyers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.

Flights Resume with Ongoing Delays

Officials announced at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, significant disruption are expected to continue throughout the day. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with a host of additional flights subject to postponements.

A spokesperson had previously estimated that dozens of flights could be affected.

"Passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the current status on their individual travel plans," the statement added.

Source of the Issue

Officials linked the widespread suspension to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.

Passengers are still being urged to check the status of their flight before heading to the terminal as backlogs are cleared.
