Two-time heavyweight champion Joshua Released from Medical Facility in Nigeria Following Deadly Road Accident
The British boxer Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital, officials in Lagos stated on Wednesday evening. The fighter was involved in a car accident in the Lagos area on the 29th of December, a horrific crash that took the lives of two of his team members.
Under Observation for Minor Injuries
The boxer had been under observation while recuperating from non-critical injuries, his promoter stated earlier on Monday. A government official, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed in an update on X that Joshua was deemed clinically fit to “recuperate at home”.
“Anthony and his mother were at the mortuary in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two deceased friends as they were being made ready for the journey back,” the commissioner stated.
A Tribute to the Fallen
The victims of the crash were identified as Latif Ayodele, a fitness coach, and Sina Ghami, a performance coach. The official further stated that the champion was filled with sorrow and overcome with emotion over the loss of his two close friends.”
The news of his discharge arrives after the boxing community had expressed sympathy for the champion in the wake of the terrible crash.
